2024 ASID Design Excellence Awards: Success in Commercial Interior Design Chicago

The 2024 ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Design Excellence Awards once again celebrated the transformative power of interior design. Held during the WorkLife meetings at the Mart, this prestigious event brought together top designers from across Illinois to recognize their outstanding contributions to the built environment. ASID members, along with IIDA Illinois Chapter members and registered interior designers, were honored for their ability to positively impact the way people live and work.

Recognizing Excellence in Interior Design

This year, the competition was fierce, with designers submitting entries across more than 46 categories, covering residential, contract, and product design. Each submission was judged by a distinguished panel of design professionals from ASID chapters across the nation, including members from outside Illinois.

As part of the Chicagoland business interior design community, Rieke Interiors was honored to compete in categories aligned with our expertise in corporate interior design and office renovation services. These awards hold special significance, as they not only celebrate outstanding design but are evaluated on criteria such as lighting, scale and proportion, color and composition, design creativity, function, and tailored solutions. Each entry also required an IMPACT statement, showcasing how the project positively influenced the lives or livelihoods of its users, further underscoring the value we place on creating spaces that inspire and support.

  • Julie Hartman and Jamie Leonard: 1st place in the “Unique Spaces” category.

The Priester Aviation Project (Contract under 3,000 SF)

This project exemplified a refined combination of functionality and aesthetic elegance, raising the bar for executive office renovations in Chicago. Reflecting on the project, Julie shared:

Our concept was to create a vintage lounge that ties into the company’s history. We incorporated branding colors and added touches of black and brass throughout to create the vibe. We created an open but cozy space that lets this company’s employees take a break, recharge, and have some fun.
— Julie Hartman | Commercial Team Lead

The Richter Studios Project (Contract 3,000-10,000 SF)

This project brought a modern, creative look to the workspace, utilizing bold materials and colors that align with the company’s spirit of innovation. Julie explained,

This client was looking for a modern and on-brand workplace design. Every inch of this space needed to be ‘camera ready.’ Our team took their branding in mind and used the ‘red carpet’ as the unifying color throughout the space. This is truly an office our client can show.
— Julie Hartman | Commercial Team Lead

The Rieke Interiors Event Space (Unique Spaces)

This project features a collaboratively designed, newly renovated upstairs bar that seamlessly blends luxury and charm, creating a truly unique and memorable experience. Reflecting on the project, Jamie shared:

ASID provides this amazing opportunity to industry professionals to put their projects up against other designers in the state. It not only gives you a chance to showcase your projects that you have worked incredibly hard on but to get acknowledged by other industry leaders. It is always an honor to win and ASID award, this one was particularly fun because it was for a space that we designed for ourselves and our clients, that we get to enjoy every day.
— Jamie Leonard | Creative Director

These award-winning projects not only showcased innovative design solutions but also reflected the high level of creativity and precision that define Rieke Interiors’ approach to corporate office design.
